Paul Combs

Combs enters his third season as an assistant coach the UW-Stevens Point Men's Basketball team in 2025-26. In 2023-24, he assisted the team in picking up their first WIAC Tournament victory since the 2021-22 season. The Pointers improved to an 18-9 record in 2024-25 and reached the WIAC Tournament semifinals.

Combs came to UWSP after most recently at Carroll University as the head men’s basketball coach. He won 320 games over his 24 years of head coaching between Division II and Division III. He posted more than 104 wins at Carroll in nine-plus seasons.
 
Prior to Carroll, Combs spent four seasons at the helm at Wayne State College. There he won 54 games and led WSC to national prominence. His 2012-13 team had the best start in school history and most wins in more than a decade. That season, his team had the top scoring and three-point defense in the NSIC.
 
No stranger to the WIAC, Combs spent six years at UW-Platteville and was the WIAC Coach of the Year in 2004-05 where he led the Pioneers to the WIAC Championship. In his final season at UWP, Combs’ team reached a No. 1 ranking nationally and finished 23-6 in 2008-09.
 
Combs also had coaching stints at Lakeland as the head coach from 1999 to 2003 where they won back-to-back conference championships. At Ripon College as an assistant from 1994 to 1999 he helped the team make four NCAA Tournament appearances and went 102-21. He holds a master’s degree from UW-Oshkosh and earned his bachelor’s degree at Ripon College where he played point guard for Hall of Fame coach Bob Gillespie.
