Jakob Gollon is in his first season as an assistant coach for the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team.
A Stevens Point native, Gollon returns home after playing Division I basketball at Mercer University. At Mercer, he was a five-time member of the Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference Team (2009-14) and was the conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2014. He was also a two-time Capital One Academic All-District choice (2012-14), was nominated for the Lowe's Senior C.L.A.S.S Award (2014) and was part of the five-player National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Allstate Good Works Team that was honored at the 2013 Final Four.
On the court, Gollon was a key part of the No. 14 seeded Mercer team that pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent NCAA Tournament history by knocking off No. 3 seeded Duke 78-71 in the second round of the Midwest Regional in 2014. The win was the first NCAA Tournament victory in the 108-year history of the men's basketball program. Gollon led the Bears with 20 points in the game and also had five rebounds.
Gollon played six seasons under coach Bob Hoffman at Mercer and overcame two medical hardship seasons to become a four-year starter and team captain. During his years as a captain, the Bears recorded the three winningest seasons in Mercer basketball history.
A graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH), Gollon was an all-state performer in both basketball and football. He was also named to the academic honor roll all four years.
Gollon majored in communications at Mercer and holds a Master's degree in Higher Educational Leadership.
