After coming off a successful four year career at NCAA Division I Loyola University in Chicago, J.R. Blount is poised to make his coaching debut for the UW-Stevens Point Pointers as a men’s basketball assistant.
Blount had a prestigious career playing for the Ramblers of Loyola, starting all four years. He earned two team Most Valuable Player awards and named to the Preseason Horizon League Second Team twice. Blount was also named the Horizon League Player of the Week twice and set the Ramblers school record for most points scored in a single game with 42.
Blount was the recipient of the Male Athlete of the Year Award twice at Loyola and finished his career ninth on the school’s all-time scoring list and finished 10th in career assists.
Before attending Loyola, Blount was a standout high school basketball player at Whitefish Bay Dominican. Blount was named to the all-conference first team three times and was named a First Team All-State selection twice. He led his team to four consecutive conference championships and won state championships in 2004 and 2005. In his high school career, Blount was named team MVP three times.
Blount graduated with a double major in Psychology and Sociology from Loyola. He is now attending UW-Stevens Point’s graduate school of Education.
