Marquardt comes to UWSP after two seasons as the head coach and athletic director at Newman Catholic High School. There, he led his team to the fourth-highest win total in school history in 2021-22. Over his two seasons, his NCHS teams had the fourth-best two-year record in school history. He led the team to the first regional title and sectional appearance in nine years.

Prior to that, Marquardt spent stints as an assistant coach at Concordia University Nebraska and a season as associate head coach at Lincoln Lutheran High School.

Marquardt was at Drake University for six seasons under four different head coaches. He helped the Bulldogs to the 2018-19 Missouri Valley Conference championship. During his time at Drake, Marquardt coached 10 players that went on to play in professional league in Europe, Mexico, Australia and China.

A native of Wausau, Marquardt is a graduate of DC Everest High School. He also earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree at Drake.
