Sam Kent

Sam Kent enters his second season with the UW-Stevens Point football program in 2017, as the defensive line coach and will also assist in strength and conditioning progam. Kent held the same position at Manchester University in North Manchester, IN.  

Kent will also handle the role of strength and conditioning coordinator for UWSP.  He received his Master’s Degree in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania in 2011.  Kent’s certifications include: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), and a certification in Speed and Explosion.

In his six seasons at Manchester, Kent instructed eight defensive line HCAC All-Conference selections.  He also coached three Spartan defensive lineman who received conference recognition as defensive players of the week. 

Prior to his time coaching at Manchester, Kent was the defensive line coach and film coordinator for MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois.  During his two year stint, the Highlanders saw a significant improvement in their rushing defense, sack, tackle for loss and turnover totals. Kent also coordinated the punt return team which was number one in the nation in yard per return and had seven blocked punts in 2009.

Kent, a 2008 graduate of Manchester, started all 40 games in his career, being named a four time all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree.  He also was awarded the teams most valuable defensive lineman three times and received the teams academic award in his senior season. 

He and his wife, Lisa, reside in Plover.
