Run Game Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach/Director of Strength and Conditioning

Vanderlin is in his fourth season with the Pointers serving as the team’s run game defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. He is a CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) and serves a dual capacity as the Head Strength and Conditioning coach for all UW-Stevens Point sports.

In 2014, UWSP ranked third in the conference in rushing defense (134.4 ypg against) and held teams to 23.8 points per game. Vanderlin coached three All-WIAC defensive linemen in 2014, as Aaron Karlen was a First Team All-WIAC selection and Dan Brown and Jordon Denfeld were honorable mentions. Karlen also was selected as a Third Team All-American by D3football.com.

Vanderlin came to Stevens Point after a successful career at NCAA Division II Michigan Tech University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science in 2011 with a minor in coaching. He was a four-time letterwinner with the Huskies, where he earned four all-conference awards as a defensive lineman.

In his final season, the team captain was a D2football.com Honorable Mention All-American, a D2/D3 Scouting Combine Second Team All-American and a Don Hansen Football Gazette Second Team Super Region Three honoree.

Vanderlin received an invite to the Green Bay Packers Rookie Orientation camp during the summer of 2012 as a defensive end. He was signed with the team in late October as a member of the practice squad. In May, 2013 he also participated in the Kansas City Chiefs Rookie Orientation camp as a defensive end.

In 2013, Vanderlin helped lead a defensive front that finished second in rushing defense, giving up 98.2 yds/gm and finish second in total defense. He also had two defensive lineman garner All-Conference accolades. Jacob Bedor was a First Team All-WIAC selection at Defensive Tackle and Mitch Chester was named Honorable Mention All-WIAC as a Defensive End. In 2012, he helped Jon Pahl achieve all-conference status as he was selected as an Honorable Mention All-WIAC Defensive End.

Under Vanderlin’s direction as the Strength and Conditioning Coach the Pointers have seen significant improvement in all areas related to athletic performance. Injuries have decreased by over 40% since he implemented an injury prevention regimen and he oversees athletes nutrition to make sure they are able to perform at their peak. Speed, agility, and strength testing numbers have improved every year since he arrived in 2012.

Vanderlin, a Green Bay, Wis., native, resides in Plover with his fiancé, Lauren.
