Anthony Aker

  • Title
Pass Game Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receiver Coach

Tony Aker is in his fourth year as an assistant coach with the Pointers, his third working with the wide receivers, and first as pass game coordinator.

Aker has played an integral role in shaping the UWSP offense into one of the most explosive in the WIAC. The Pointers finished third in scoring, passing, and total offense during the 2014 campaign—a key factor in the team’s 5-0 start and a national ranking for five consecutive weeks.

He has coached four All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players in tight end Mike Mullins (2011), and wide receivers Theo Maglio (2012), and Matt Sosinsky (2014). Maglio was a second team D3football.com All-West Region player and represented the United States in the Aztec Bowl. Both Maglio and Sosinsky led the WIAC in regular season receiving yards.

Aker also coaches the Pointers’ punt/kickoff return unit, which produced all-conference kick returner Colton Zimmerman (2012).

Coach Aker also currently serves as the team’s academic coordinator and has helped UWSP produce more than 60 WIAC scholar-athletes.

In addition to his football responsibilities, Aker has served as a member of the game management staff at UW-Stevens Point for two years—during which UWSP has hosted multiple WIAC and NCAA championship events.

The 27-year old Aker is originally from Bloomington, Indiana but moved to Wisconsin prior to high school. He attended Brown Deer High School in Milwaukee. Aker had successful playing career with UWSP from 2009-10 and earned All-Conference as a kick returner in 2010. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2012 and will complete his master’s degree in education in 2015.
