Derksen begins his second season as the running backs coach and video coordinator for the UWSP football team. The business administration major played one season for the Pointers before moving to the coaching ranks.
Last year, Derksen worked with the linebackers and helped coach a Pointer defense that held opponents to an average of 19.6 points per game, tying for second in the WIAC. The Pointers were also third in the conference in both rushing and passing yards allowed. As a defensive unit, UWSP ranked third in the WIAC and finished second in the conference to eventual NCAA national champion, UW-Whitewater.
Derksen also coached unanimous WIAC All-Conference selection Peter Peterson who led the conference in forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.
A native of Maple Grove, Minn., Derksen is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership organization.
