STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (2-1-0) played its third-consecutive 1-0 match, but were on the wrong end of the score on Sunday to visiting Concordia (Wis.) (1-2-0).
Piper Hanley (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and
Katelyn Vitkus (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) each had a shot on goal in the first half. UWSP goalkeeper
Jocelyn Blahnik (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) made three saves as the game went to half tied at 0-0. Blahnik extended her shutout streak to 135 minutes to begin the season.
Sofia Jimenez (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) fired a shot on goal and
Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) had two, but the match remained deadlocked.
In the 69th minute, CUW found the back of the net to put UWSP in a 1-0 hole. In the 76th minute,
Rita Danner (West Des Moines, Iowa/Waukee) nearly tied the match ringing a shot off the crossbar. Danner had a shot on goal seconds later, but UWSP could not find an equalizer.
Ainsley Katte (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) made two saves in the second half. CUW split keepers by half as well making all six saves.
The Pointers will hit the road for three matches this week starting on Wednesday (Sept. 9) at 7:00 p.m. at Carroll.
