STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (5-6) fell in another five-set thriller at Berg Gym to visiting Edgewood (8-3) on Tuesday.
Hannah Strege (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) posted a double-double with 17 assists and 11 digs.
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) led a trio of Pointers with double-figure kills with 14.
Maggie O'Brien (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) had a team-high 19 assists and
Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led UWSP with 14 digs.
Trieloff had three early kills as UWSP went up, 5-3, in the first.
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and Trieloff added a pair of kills each as Edgewood crept ahead, 15-14.
Logan Cregan (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville Area) had two late kills, but the Eagles took the opening set, 25-21.
Thomka had a kill and served two aces for a 5-4 advantage early in the second.
Sadie Grabarski (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee Community) and
Delilah Hyland (Glen Ellyn, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) combined on consecutive kills in a 6-1 run as UWSP evened the match with a 25-19 win in set two.
Trieloff and Grabarski each had two kills, but Edgewood jumped ahead, 12-5, in the third. Thomka added a pair of kills in the set as Edgewood pulled away for a 25-15 win.
Samantha Kempinger (Oshkosh, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) had two kills as UWSP battled back to tie the fourth at 7-7. Hyland had a kill at each end of a 9-3 run.
Bella Lucero (Antioch, Ill./Carmel Catholic) served an ace and Thomka had two late kills as the pointers forced a fifth set with a 25-23 win.
Trieloff had two kills and a block as UWSP stayed close at 7-6 in the fifth. Grabarski and Thomka each had a kill late as Edgewood took the win with a 15-11 set five victory.
The Pointers will travel to UW-Platteville to open conference play on Friday (Sept. 25). First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
