OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (2-3) got a pair of wins on Wednesday at the Oshkosh Quad. UWSP took down Lakeland (4-2) in five sets before getting a three-set sweep over St. Norbert (1-5).
Samantha Kempinger (Oshkosh, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) recorded her first double-double of the season with a team-high 12 kills and 11 digs in the win over the Muskies.
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and
Delilah Hyland (Glen Ellyn, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) also have double-digit kills with 12 and 11, respectively.
Hannah Strege (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) led UWSP in assists in both matches with 21 and 18 on the night.
Megan Buri (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Durham Hall) added 15 assists in each match.
Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had a match-best 21 digs against Lakeland.
UWSP 3, Lakeland 2 (27-29, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-12)
Kempinger, Thomka and Hyland combined for 10 kills as UWSP held a 22-17 lead in the first set. Lakeland posted an 8-2 run as both teams had a set point.
Sadie Grabarski (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee Community) and
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) each had a late kill but the Muskies took a lengthy first set.
Hyland and Kempinger had three kills each as UWSP nudged ahead 12-11.
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) added a pair of kills and Thomka served an ace as the set was knotted at 18-18. Kempinger and Hyland had a kill apiece as Lakeland finished with a 7-2 run.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) served an ace with Thomka and Trieloff posting two kills each as UWSP jumped ahead 10-4 in the third. Thomka had two kills and two blocks down the stretch as UWSP got a third-set win.
Kempinger had a block and two kills early in the fourth.
Bella Lucero (Antioch, Ill./Carmel Catholic) served an ace and Shaw capped 6-0 burst with a kill. Strege served an ace in another 6-0 run as UWSP forced a fifth set.
Thomka and Kempinger posted two kills and a block each for an 8-5 advantage in the fifth. Grabarski and Thomka had a pair of kills apiece late and Trieloff completed the reverse sweep with a match-ending block.
UWSP 3, SNC 0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-20)
Trieloff started the match with two kills as UWSP went ahead 8-3. Kempinger and Thomka recorded two kills each mid set for a brief 15-14 lead. Shaw had two kills late as UWSP used a 6-2 run to take the opening set.
Erlandson,
Savanna Moe (Saint Paul, Minn/St. Croix Lutheran Academy) and Buri each had an ace as UWSP built up a 17-11 lead. Lucero served three aces in a 6-0 run to end the set.
Shaw racked up four kills in a 6-1 run as UWSP seized control at 15-6.
Isabelle Axelson (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) had two kills late and
Logan Cregan (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville Area) served two aces as the Pointers finished the sweep.
The Pointers travel to Illinois to take on Augustana on Friday (Sept. 11) at 7:00 p.m.
