STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (17-19) got a 9-4 win over Ripon (5-28) in the non-conference finale on Tuesday.
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) went 4-for-4 and was hit by a pitch. He scored two runs and drove in another.
Drew Mistele (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) drew three walks and had three RBI.
Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had a bases-clearing double.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) and
Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) had two RBI each.
Drohner was hit by a pitch to start the first inning.
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) drew a walk and both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Mistele singled to center as UWSP went up, 2-0.
Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) was hit by a pitch to begin the second.
Mason Fink (Verona, Wis./Verona) reached on a bunt and, two batters later, Drohner singled to load the bases. Oliver reached on an infield single to push in one run. Olson hit a sacrifice fly to right to give the Pointers a 4-0 advantage.
Adams led off the fourth with a walk. Drohner reached on a bunt single and Olson singled to load the bases. With two away, Mistele drew a walk to push in one run. Ramirez followed with a bases-clearing double as UWSP took an 8-1 lead.
In the fifth, Adams drew a one-out walk. He stole second and scored on a single by Drohner for a 9-1 lead.
Ripon scored one run in the eighth and two in the ninth to make the final score closer than the game was throughout.
Braylen Nystrom (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) started and went 5.0 innings. He struck out five.
Ethan Winkler (Appleton, Wis./East) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings and had one strikeout.
Jake Williams (Carol Stream, Ill./Wheaton North) struck out four in 1.1 frames of work.
The Pointers host UW-Platteville in the final series of the regular season. First pitch on Friday (May 1) is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Zimmermann Field.
