Wigen Scores Two, Pointers Look Ahead to Augsburg

STEVENS POINT, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (7-7, 1-5) battled with a fast-paced UW-River Falls (14-2, 7-1) to a 24-6, final, on Wednesday evening. Sophomore Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) led the Pointers with a goal and assist.
 
UWRF opened the game with four goals before Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) found Elysia Pitts (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) at 9:10 for the Pointers' first goal. UWRF extended their lead to 8-1, closing out the first quarter.
 
Katie Wigen (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) opened the second quarter scoring off an assist from Keeping to inch closer to the Falcons' lead. UWRF responded with an additional goal, just before the Wigen/Keeping duo scored on a player-down opportunity at 12:36. The Falcons extended their lead by five goals. Rowan Dunn (Janesville, Wis./Joseph A. Craig) closed out the second quarter scoring with an unassisted goal at 4:22.
 
The Pointers' put up a defensive stop and only allowed five Falcon goals in the third quarter. Keeping found Van Dyke at 6:02 off a successful clear attempt. Keeping found the back of the net at 8:26 in the fourth quarter for the Pointers' final goal.
 
UWSP secured 11 draw controls in the loss. Van Dyke led the team with four, Zoe Schuhmacher (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and Abbey Boersma (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) each secured two while Addison Novack (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg), Josie Voigt (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and Kaylynn Gracyalny (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski) tacked on one each. Claire Heller (Naperville, Ill./Central) led the defense in three caused turnovers.
 
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal, making 16 saves in 60 minutes of play.
 
The Pointers head to Minneapolis, Minn. on Saturday (Apr. 25) to face Augsburg for the final road conference game of the season. Opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
