Pointers Fall Twice to Close out Weekend in Illinois

DECATUR, Ill. – The No. 21 UW-Stevens Point softball team (6-4) dropped both games on Sunday to close out play at the Millikin Invite. UWSP fell in game one, 8-0, to Coe (5-4) before closing out play with an 8-4 loss to Millikin (2-3).

Freshman Ashley Lecavalier had four hits on the day with two RBI and a run scored. Kaitlyn Roberts (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) had two hits and drew two walks. Hannah Roepke (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) hit safely in both games.

Game 1 – UWSP 0, Coe 8 (5 inn.)
Coe drew five walks, had three hits and used two UWSP errors to score eight times in the bottom of the first inning.

Lecavalier got UWSP's first hit of the game with one away in the third inning. Roberts followed with her second walk of the game, but both runners were left stranded.

Roepke had a two-out single in the fourth, but that was all the offense UWSP could muster.

Morgan Harwood (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) went 0.2 innings in the start and struck out two. Kodi Rizzo (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) also had two strikeouts and allowed one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings. Allie Schwirtz (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) made her collegiate debut in the circle with a hitless inning of work.

Game 2 – UWSP 4, Millikin 8
Roberts doubled to start the game. Two batters later, Rachael Madsen (Kenosha, Wis./Mary D. Bradford) drew a walk, but both were left stranded.

Lecavalier and Roberts hit consecutive singles. With two away, Sophie Schmidt (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot Union) singled up the middle to give UWSP a 1-0 lead.

Millikin used a pair of two-out hits in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Roepke singled to start the fourth and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two away, Lecavalier singled to drive home pinch runner Paige Kislow (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) to tie the game at 2-2.

Millikin again responded in the bottom of the frame with three runs on two hits, a walk, a hit batter and an error.

Trinity Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) hit a single to begin the sixth. She was replaced at first by Roepke on a fielder's choice. Ashley Zygowski (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) hit a double to plate Roepke. Lecavalier singled to push in another run as UWSP got within 5-4.

The Big Blue scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth on four walks and no hits.

Mallorie Kreuser (Verona, Wis./Verona) struck out three in 3.0 innings. Zygowski pitched 2.1 innings and Rizzo tossed the final 0.2 frames.

The Pointers head to Florida to begin play at The Spring Games on March 16 with games against McDaniel and Springfield at 12:15 and 2:30 p.m. ET, respectively.
