WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (6-8, 0-4) dropped both games to No. 12 UW-Whitewater (12-3, 4-0) by 8-7 and 17-3 finals.
Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) hit a home run in each game giving him four long balls over the weekend series. He had three hits, three RBI and three runs scored on Sunday.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) also had three hits on the day with three RBI and scored a run in each game.
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead),
Braylen Nystrom (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH),
Mason Fink (Verona, Wis./Verona) and
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) each had a two-hit game on the day.
Game 1 – UWSP 7, UWW 8
Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./West) drew a two-out walk in the first inning. Ramirez followed with his first home run of the day for a 2-0 UWSP lead.
Fink started the second with a walk. Two batters later, Oliver clubbed a two-run home run for a 4-1 lead.
UWW tied the game at 4-4 in the second and took a 5-4 lead in the third.
Fink and Drohner reached on back-to-back singled to begin the fourth. Consecutive groundouts by Oliver and Olson each plated a run as UWSP regained the lead at 6-5.
With two down in the fifth, Nystrom launched his first career home run for a 7-5 UWSP advantage.
The Warhawks got one run in the sixth and scored twice in the eighth to earn the comeback win.
Steven Wintheiser (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) went 5.2 innings in the start and struck out two.
Jeremiah Jahnke (Winneconne, Wis./Winneconne) had two strikeouts in 2.0 IP of relief.
Game 2 – UWSP 3, UWW 17 (7 inn.)
UWW hit for the cycle in the first inning and tallied nine runs on eight hits and left the bases loaded. In the second, UWW tacked on four more runs on four hits.
Oliver doubled with one out in the fifth. Ramirez drew a walk and both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Brown singled to push in both runners.
Ramirez belted a solo home run to lead off the seventh.
Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings of work in relief.
The Pointers continue league play on the road with a weekend series at UW-Oshkosh beginning on Friday (Apr. 3) at 12:00 p.m.
