WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (6-4) dropped its final game in Florida to Rutgers-Camden (8-7) by a 4-1 final on Saturday.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) and
Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had two hits each. Oliver drove in the lone UWSP run on the day.
UWSP stranded two aboard in the first as
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) drew a walk and
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) singled. Ramirez doubled to start the second and was left at third as the frame ended.
Soule doubled in the third and again UWSP was kept off the board. Ramirez singled in the fourth and reached second before the inning ended.
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) and Oliver had consecutive one-out singles in the fifth. Both made it to scoring position before the frame ended.
Rutgers-Camden broke the scoreless tie in the fifth with four runs on two hits, two walks, a hit batter and an error.
Drohner drew a two-out walk in the seventh. Oliver doubled into the right field corner as Drohner raced home from first to get the Pointers on the board.
Easton Zempel (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) tossed a perfect first inning with one strikeout.
Steven Wintheiser (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) went 3.2 innings in relief and struck out four.
Jeremiah Jahnke (Winneconne, Wis./Winneconne),
Braylen Nystrom (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and
Jaycob Dittmer (Denmark, Wis./Denmark) all had a strikeout in a relief appearance.
Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) tossed a hitless frame.
The Pointers head to UW-Whitewater on Saturday (Mar. 28) to open conference play. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
