STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Junior
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) hit a season-high six three-pointers and the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (14-7, 3-7) got a 69-55 win over UW-Eau Claire (12-9, 2-8) in Saturday's annual Pink Game.
Smith led all scorers with 23 points, one shy of her career high.
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) registered her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and a game-best 12 rebounds.
Laney Panich (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) was in double-figures for the first time in her career with 10 points.
Panich buried a three to open the game. Smith and Rice scored on consecutive possessions and the Pointers were up, 7-4.
Jessilyn Ernst (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville) made a layup late and Smith drilled her first three at the buzzer for a 16-12 lead.
Aubrey Smith (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) combined for seven points for a 25-21 advantage.

Panich made the opening bucket of the second half. After UWEC tied the game at 33-33, Smith nailed threes on consecutive possessions. Aubrye Smith and Rice made baskets and UWSP led, 47-39, heading to the fourth.
Rice scored the first six points of the fourth for UWSP. Panich and Smith hit three-straight three-pointers as the lead quickly ballooned to 16, 62-46. Smith and
Lily Truchon (Herbster, Wis./South Shore) added buckets down the stretch in the win.
The Pointers are home again on Wednesday (Feb. 11) for a 7:00 p.m. game against UW-River Falls.
