STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 22 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (16-4, 6-3) jumped ahead 9-0 and never trailed in a 63-51 win over UW-Stout (8-12, 4-5) on Wednesday.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) led a quartet of Pointers in double figures with 17 points.
Josh Bocher (Kewaskum, Wis./Kewaskum),
Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) added 13, 12 and 10, respectively. Miron had a team-high five rebounds.
Miron hit his first three of the game amid a 9-0 start for the Pointers. Butler and Miron each hit from beyond the arc, but the lead was just 19-16 midway through the first half.
Combs completed an and-one with just over five minutes left in the opening half. Miron buried a late three and UWSP held a 30-21 advantage at the half.
Grant Manz (Kiel, Wis./Kiel),
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) and Miron combined for eight points out of the second-half gate. Butler hit a pair of free throws with 9:50 to go to cap a 16-6 run to start the second half, giving the Pointers a game-high 19-point lead.
Combs completed another and-one with 5:39 remaining. Butler buried a late three as UWSP held on despite the Blue Devils getting within six in the final minute.
The Pointers travel to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Feb. 7) for a 5:00 p.m. tilt against the Blugolds.
