OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 19 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (19-6, 9-5) secured the two-seed in the WIAC Tournament with a 71-67 win at UW-Oshkosh (17-8, 8-6) in the regular season finale on Saturday.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led all scorers with 23 points, including a go-ahead three-pointer in the final minute of play.
Isaiah Moore (Chicago, Ill./Evanston Township) and
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) had a game-high eight rebounds.
Butler and Baumgartner drilled back-to-back threes to spark an 8-0 run as UWSP took the lead, 12-6.
James Jacobs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) had four points as the Pointers held the lead, 20-15. Baumgartner hit a three late and Butler made a layup at the buzzer as the Pointers took a 38-37 advantage to the break.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and Baumgartner combined for nine points as UWSP built a 53-45 lead. Butler scored UWSP's next six points as the lead reached a game-high 12 at 59-47.
Max Raimer (Sun Prairie, Wis./East) halted a 13-3 UWO run with a bucket as the Titans had closed to within a possession.
Moore gave the Pointers a 66-62 lead with 3:22 to go. UWO made one final push scoring the next five points to put UWSP behind, 67-66 with 40 seconds left. Butler buried a three on the next possession to give UWSP its final lead. He hit both free throws with three seconds left to secure the win.
The Pointers will host the WIAC Tournament semifinals on Thursday (Feb. 26) at 7:00 p.m. UWSP's opponent will be determined in the WIAC Tournament first round on Tuesday (Feb. 24).
