STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (15-10, 4-10) dropped its regular season finale to No. 5/7 UW-Oshkosh (23-2, 12-2) by a 57-41 final on Saturday.
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North),
Emma Kilpatrick (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) and
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) were all in double figures for the Pointers with 12, 12 and 11 points, respectively. Smith and Kilpatrick led UWSP with eight rebounds each.
Smith buried a three on the opening possession of the game.
Jessilyn Ernst (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville) added a layup and UWSP held a 5-2 lead.
Keira Maki (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) and Rice each made a bucket for a 9-7 advantage, but UWSP trailed, 13-9, after one.
Laney Panich (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) ended a 14-0 run by UWO with a bucket nearly halfway through the second quarter. Rice drained a three, but the halftime deficit was 32-14.
Kilpatrick and Rice combined for all 15 UWSP points in the third quarter as the Pointers matched the Titans at 15-15 in the stanza.
Smith sunk a pair of threes and had nine points as UWSP started the fourth with an 11-0 run. Kilpatrick made a free throw in the final minute as UWSP was out-scored 10-1 over the final 3:17.
The Pointers secured the six-seed in WIAC Tournament and will face UW-Whitewater at 7:00 p.m. on Monday (Feb. 23) in Whitewater.
