Women’s Tennis Earns Pair of Wins to Begin Spring Play

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team picked up two wins to open spring season play on Saturday. UWSP shut out Concordia University Wisconsin, 7-0, and defeated Northwestern by a 6-1 final.
 
Against CUW, the Pointers swept doubles play to earn the team point. No. 1 pair of Chloe Regal (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) and Annie Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) got a 6-0 win. Ellie Aitken (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) and Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) got a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) and Allie Brosteau (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) won at No. 3 doubles by a 6-4 score.
 
In the win over CUW, Regal got a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and Jantz won, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Wierzbicki got a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Aitken won at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-4. Steier got a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Brosteau took No. 6 singles by a 6-2, 6-0 score.
 
UWSP swept doubles play in the nightcap against UNW. Regal and Wierzbicki won, 6-2. Jantz/Aitken and Steier/Brosteau both won, 6-0.
 
In singles play versus UNW, Regla rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Brosteau got a 6-0, 6-1 win. Aitken and Steier got wins by identical 6-2, 6-1 scores. Wierzbicki won by a 6-3, 6-1 score. Jantz fell in a super-breaker, 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (7).
 
The Pointers are back in action on Friday (Feb. 6) in Minnesota beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran.
