STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (10-11-0, 4-6-0) finished off a five-game season sweep of Beloit (2-18-0, 0-8-0) with a 3-1 win on Saturday.
After a scoreless opening period,
Jenna Britz (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) gave UWSP a lead at 2:28 of the second period with her third goal of the season.
Abby Skelly (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and
Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) had assists on the play.
Senior
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) tallied an unassisted goal at 9:03 of the second period, the eventual game-winner.
Early in the third period, Pohlkamp notched her second point of the day with a goal. Skelly added her second assist of the game.
With four minutes remaining, the visiting Buccaneers spoiled the shutout as a tip in front of goal found the back of the net.
UWSP goaltenders
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) and
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) combined for 14 saves in the win. Beloit goaltender Janelle Quast made 48 saves.
The Pointers travel to UW-Superior on Friday (Feb. 6) to begin a weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
