RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (9-10-2, 4-6-1) scored a season-high three power-play goals en route to a 5-2 win at UW-River Falls (11-9-1, 5-6-0) on Saturday night.
Chris Engelbert (Whitby, Ont.) gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead with an even-strength goal at 5:53 of the first period.
Owen Dean (Calgary, Alberta) and
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) got assists on the goal.
Quinton Hill (Coquitlam, B.C.) tallied the first power-play goal of the game at 7:21 of the first to push the lead to 2-0.
Alec Hamady (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and
Aiden Moser (Bismark, N.D.) had assists.
Just over a minute later,
Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.) made it 3-0 with a power-play goal at 8:34.
Gabe Randel (Hortonville, Wis.) extended his point streak to eight games with an assist.
Ryan Hintz (Rockford, Ill.) also had a helper on the play.
In the final minute of the second period, Hintz netted a power-play goal to give UWSP a 4-1 lead. Chmelevski and Dean provided assists.
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) scored a shorthanded empty-net goal at 19:13 of the third period to seal the win.
Michael Eftimovski (Toronto, Ont.) had an assist.
UWSP goaltender
Ryan Maguire (Ridgefield, Conn.) made 26 saves to earn the win. UWRF goaltender Brennan Boynton had 22 saves.
The Pointers travel to Beloit for a weekend series beginning on Friday (Feb. 6) at 7:00 p.m.
