STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (4-7-1, 2-4-1) was unable to savage a game in the series with visiting UW-Eau Claire (8-4-1, 6-1-0) falling by a 3-1 final on Friday.
The Blugolds posted the only goal of the first period at 5:35 and carried that 1-0 lead to the third period.
At 4:21 of the third period, the Blugolds extended the UWSP deficit to 2-0.
Freshman
Gabe Randel (Hortonville, Wis.) scored his fourth of the season at 12:27 of the third period to get the Pointers within 2-1.
Camden Markham (Houghton, Mich.) and Bennet Koupal added assists on the goal.
UWEC made it 3-1 just 34 seconds later to complete the scoring. The Pointers pulled goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) with 4:07 remaining, but were unable to score with the extended man advantage.
Proctor made 19 saves to keep UWSP close. UWEC goaltender Max Gutjahr had 31 saves to help the Blugolds complete the series sweep.
The Pointers travel to De Pere on Saturday (Jan. 3) to face St. Norbert at 7:00 p.m.
