ST. PAUL, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-9-0) fell by a 9-0 final at No. 11 Hamline (11-2-0).
UWSP starting goaltender
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) held the Pipers off the board until the 7:43 mark of the first period.
Just over a minute later, Hamline made it 2-0. Later in the first period, the Pipers tallied the first of their three power-play goals in the game to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Pipers scored just seven seconds into the second period with a shorthanded tally. Hamline scored two more goals before
Claire Swanson (Buffalo, Minn./Rogers) took over in goal for UWSP.
Swanson made 22 saves in 15:18 of the second period although the Pipers added three more goals in the frame.
Swanson had 20 saves in the third period and held Hamline without a goal in the final period.
Hamline goaltenders Harper Powell and Maya Marston combined to make 18 saves.
The Pointers are home on Friday (Jan. 16) for a 2:00 p.m. game against UW-Eau Claire to begin a weekend home-and-home against the Blugolds.
