MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (6-8-1) got a 5-4 win at Augsburg (5-8-2) to cap an unbeaten weekend in Minnesota.
Gino Colangelo (Newmarket, Ont.) scored an unassisted goal at 3:29 of the first to give UWSP a 1-0 lead. The Auggies tallied two goals, including a late power-play tally, as the Pointers were down, 2-1, after one.
Turner Richards (Minocqua, Wis.) scored his first career goal at 2:12 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Colangelo and
Bennett Koupal (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had assists on the play.
Just 16 seconds into the third period,
Gabe Randel (Hortonville, Wis.) put the Pointers back in front.
Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.) had the lone assist.
Camden Markham (Houghton, Mich.) pushed the lead to 4-2 at 3:36 of the third with Randel providing the assist.
Augsburg scored twice, at 5:45 and 7:31, to tie the game at 4-4.
Alex Johnson (Calgary, Alberta) netted the game-winner at 17:10 of the third period for a 5-4 lead. Richards had an assist for his second point of the night.
UWSP goaltender
Ryan Maguire (Ridgefield, Conn.) had 20 saves to earn the win. Augsburg goaltender Carsen Stokes made 27 saves.
The Pointers are back home to face Hamline on Friday (Jan. 16). Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
