STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis swept visiting Saint Ambrose, 7-0, in the season opener on Saturday.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Ellie Aitken (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) got a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
Chloe Regal (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) and
Annie Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Wierzbicki and Brosteau needed a third set and a super-breaker, respectively, to win their singles matches. Wierzbicki split 6-2 sets and then rolled toa 6-0 win in the third set. Brosteau fell in a tiebreak in the opening set, 7-6 (3). She won set two, 6-3, and the super-breaker, 10-6.
Jantz won a tiebreak in the first set at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (0). She won the second set, 6-4.
Regal and Aitken won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
The Pointers open league play on Saturday (Sept. 13) against UW-Stout at home at 10:00 a.m.
