STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (8-4, 1-0) got double-doubles from three players in a 3-1 win over UW-River Falls (5-7, 0-1) in the home and conference opener Friday night.
Freshman
Logan Cregan (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville Area) recorded her second-straight double-double with a season- and match-high 18 kills. She added 10 digs.
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) also had a double-double, the first of her career, with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Hannah Strege (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) had a match-best 32 assists and recorded a double-double, her sixth of the year, with 17 digs.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) led all players with 25 digs.
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had a match-high six blocks.
Five different Pointers had a kill apiece as UWSP jumped in front, 11-7, in the first. Cregan had a pair of kills in an 8-2 run by the Pointers as UWSP took the opening set, 25-23.
Trieloff, Thomka and
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) combined for seven kills as the Pointers went up 17-11 in the second. Cregan had a pair of kills as UWSP ended the set on a 7-2 run for a 25-16 win.
Thomka, Trieloff, Shaw and Cregan combined for 10 kills, but UWSP trailed 18-16 in the third. Trieloff had three kills and Shaw had another to tie the set at 22-22. Shaw and Cregan had eight kills down the stretch as UWRF outlasted the Pointers for a 32-30 win to force a fourth set.
Cregan and
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) had a pair of kills each as UWSP began to rally within 12-11 in the fourth. Cregan had an ace in an 8-1 burst as UWSP took the lead, 19-14. Shaw and Cregan had a kill each and Erlandson clinched the match with an ace in a 25-21 set four win.
The Pointers will host Carroll and Bethel at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 20) in the Pointers Invitational.
