OSHKOSH, Wis. – Sophomore
Kaitlyn Roberts (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) hit a leadoff home run as the UW-Stevens Point softball team (30-12) knocked off regional host No. 14 UW-Oshkosh (37-7) by a 1-0 final to advance the NCAA Tournament Regional Championship game.
Morgan Harwood (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and
Ashley Zygowski (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) combined for a second-straight shutout. Harwood went 3.1 innings and struck out three. Zygowski tossed the final 3.2 frames with two strikeouts to earn the win.
Roberts hit the fifth pitch in the bottom of the first just over the fence in left, the eventual game-winning run.
The Pointers got a runner on in the third, fourth and sixth, but could not increase the lead.
UWO got a runner aboard in each of the first six innings, but Harwood and Zygowski were able to strand nine runners on base to seal the shutout win.
The Pointers will play in the Regional Championship game on Saturday (May 17) at 11:00 a.m. The opponent will be determined later today.
