Pointers Fall to UWO in WIAC Semis

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (28-12) fell to UW-Oshkosh (35-6) in the WIAC Tournament semifinals (presented by Culver's) by a 3-0 final on Saturday.

Emmie Cibrario (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) posted her second-straight multi-hit game of the tournament with two of UWSP's four hits in the game. Hailee Thompson (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) and Trinity Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) each had one hit.

Ella Smith (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) reached on an error to begin the game. A double play cleared the bases. Jesse Klicker (Spring Grove, Ill/Richmond-Burton Community) drew a two-out walk, but remained there as the inning ended.

Rachel Baker (Richmond, Ill./Richmond-Burton Community) drew a walk to start the second inning. With two away, Otto singled and both runners were stranded.

After UWO put up two runs in the second, Thompson hit a one-out single in the third. Two batters later, Kaitlyn Roberts (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) was hit by a pitch and again UWSP stranded runners aboard.

Cibrario doubled to lead off the fourth and singled with two away in the sixth. In the seventh, Otto and Thompson each drew a walk, but the Pointers stranded two aboard to end the game.

Morgan Harwood (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and Ashley Zygowski (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) each pitched 3.0 innings and each recorded one strikeout.

The Pointers will await Monday's (May 12) NCAA Selection Show to find out their postseason fate.
