MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team dropped both matches in Iowa on Sunday. The Pointers fell to Wartburg, 5-2, before dropping a 6-1 final to host Cornell.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) began the day with a 7-6 (2) win at No. 1 doubles, but Wartburg took the doubles team point.
Jantz played a super-breaker at No. 1 singles against Wartburg. She won the opening set, 6-1. In set two, she fell, 7-5, and came up short in the super-breaker, 10-6.
Scharf won her No. 3 singles match, 7-5, 6-4.
Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) took No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Against Cornell,
Allie Brosteau (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) and
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) got a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Cornell took the team doubles point though.
Jantz played another super-breaker at No. 1 singles, again falling short, 5-7, 6-4, 10-0. Scharf fell at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 7-6 (2).
Brosteau got the win at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
The Pointers are next in action at the WIAC Final Four Tournament on April 26 at UW-Whitewater.
