ST. JOSEPH, Minn.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (2-14, 1-7) faced Saint Benedict (9-5, 6-2) for the final road game of the season, falling 18-7.
CSB opened the game with a strong offensive run scoring five goals before the Pointers could find the back of the net.
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) netted a goal at 3:01 off an assist from
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove). CSB scored three more to take a firm lead of 8-1 going into the second quarter.
Van Dyke found
Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) for a goal at 5:38 in the second quarter to round out the Pointers' offense in the first half.
The Pointers came out of halftime ready to go. Leising scored a goal at 13:44 off an assist from
Paige Allen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), 11-3. After a few CSB goals, Keeping scored on a player-up opportunity at 4:58 off an assist from Van Dyke. Rounding out the third quarter, Leising found the back of the net at 1:54 off an assist from Van Dyke to make it 16-5 going into the final quarter.
Leising scored the first goal of the quarter at 9:41, unassisted. CSB netted a pair of goals before Leising's last-second shot turned into a goal.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal completing 20 saves in 60 minutes of play.
The Pointers are back home for the season finale and senior day against the Augsburg Auggies on Wednesday (Apr. 30). Opening draw is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
