MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior
Josh Heuss (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) got a takedown in overtime in the third-place match to earn the right to represent the UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team at the NCAA Championships in two weeks.
Results
Heuss rebounded from a 4-0 decision loss to begin his day in the 165 bracket. He earned a win by fall in his first consolation match to reach the third-place bout. There, he wrestled to a 1-1 draw after regulation. With 34 seconds left in the first overtime, he got a takedown to punch his ticket to nationals for the first time in his career.
Carson Trotzer (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) reached the third-place match in the 174 bracket. He got a win by fall in the consolation bracket to advance to the third-place bout.
Riese Thornberry (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) also found his way to the third-place bout. He got a 1206 decision win and a win by fall on the day.
Easton Hull (Waupun, Wis./Waupun) finished fifth in the 184 bracket coming up short in a 7-5 decision trying to reach the third-place match.
Logan Neitzel (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) placed sixth in the 197 bracket. He got an 11-0 major decision win on the day.
Heuss will travel to Providence, R.I., for the NCAA Championships beginning on Mar. 14.
