Andrle, Ahern, Leising Score in Women’s Hockey Home Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (12-12-1, 6-5-1) closed out the regular season with a 9-3 defeat to No. 2 UW-River Falls (19-3-2, 10-0-1) on Saturday.
 
The visiting Falcons took an early lead en route the regular season title. UWRF scored four times in the opening period, including one on the lone power play of the game.
 
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) got UWSP on the board at 11:29 of the second period to make it 6-1. Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) had the assist on the play.
 
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) scored at the 15:32 mark of the third period to make it 8-3. Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) had the lone assist on the goal.
 
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) got UWSP's third goal of the game at 17:03 of the third. Ahern and Amanda Pouchnik (Viola, Idaho/Moscow) had helpers on the goal.
 
The Falcons added a late goal to close out the scoring.
 
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) made 33 saves in relief of Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy), who had six. UWRF's trio of Jordan O'Kane, Olivia Hansen and Anna Rader each played a period and totalled 13 saves.
 
The Pointers will head to UW-Eau Claire for the semifinal round of the WIAC Tournament. Game 1 is scheduled for Feb. 28.
