SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team improved to 8-0 with a 66-49 win at UW-Superior (2-7) in a game the UWSP led from the opening tipoff.
Emma Kiklpatrick recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) led all scorers with 21 points with five three-point makes.
Smith buried her first three-pointer to put UWSP up, 5-0. Kilpatrick and
Maddie Murphy (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) each hit from behind the arc as UWSP held an 18-10 lead after one.
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) scored four-straight to open the second quarter. Smith hit two more threes and had eight points as the Pointers were up 38-21 at the half.
Kilpatrick scored four early points in the third quarter. Smith nailed a pair of triples and
Jessilyn Ernst (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville) scored three points late for a 53-39 lead heading to the fourth.
Lily Truchon (Herbster, Wis./South Shore) scored four points in the fourth quarter as the lead reached 20 for UWSP in the final stanza.
The Pointers are back home on Thursday (Dec. 18) for a 12:00 p.m. game against Concordia (Wis.) for Education Day in Quandt Fieldhouse.
