APPLETON, Wis. – Senior
Emma Kilpatrick (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) poured in a season-high 25 points as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (7-0) defeated Lawrence (7-1) by a 71-54 final in a matchup of unbeatens on Tuesday.
Kilpatrick led all scorers with 25 points going 8-for-12 from the floor, including five made three-pointers. She also led the Pointers with eight rebounds.
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) and
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) were also in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Jessilyn Ernst (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville) almost joined them in double figures with nine points.
Smith and
Lily Truchon (Herbster, Wis./South Shore) each hit a three pointer as UWSP jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Rice had three points late and the advantage was 15-10 after one.
Kilpatrick took over the game in the second quarter hitting her first three of the game and scoring 14 points, including 10-straight at one point. The Pointers led, 36-24, at halftime.
Ernst scored four points early in the third quarter. Kilpatrick and Rice combined for the next 10 UWSP points and the Pointers led, 52-45, heading to the fourth.
Kilpatrick and Smith hit consecutive threes to begin the fourth. Kilpatrick nailed another triple and Smith hit four free throws to seal the win.
The Pointers travel to UW-Superior on Saturday (Dec. 13). Tip off against the Yellowjackets is slated for 5:30 p.m.
