MEQUON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (16-15) suffered a sweep at Concordia (Wis.) (15-12) in the regular season finale.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) tied for the match-high with nine kills.
Hannah Strege (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) led the Pointers with 17 assists.
Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego),
Samantha Kempinger (Oshkosh, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Savanna Moe (Saint Paul, Minn/St. Croix Lutheran Academy) were all in double figures with 17, 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
Olivia Paukner's (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) second kill of the match sparked a 6-0 run as UWSP tied the first set at 16-16. Paukner had another kill late as CUW took the first set, 25-22.
Kempinger had a kill and a block as the Pointers went up, 7-4, to start the second. Kempinger had two more kills in an 8-2 run as UWSP got within 17-16.
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) added two kills late, but CUW prevailed with a 25-21 win.
Shaw and
Delilah Hyland (Glen Ellyn, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) combined for five kills and block as UWSP attempted to comeback in the third, down 14-9. Kempinger had a pair of kills and
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) served consecutive aces in a 6-0 run to tie the set at 15-15. Shaw had a kill and a block late as CUW pulled away late, 25-19, to finish the sweep.
The Pointers travel to UW-Whitewater on Tuesday (Nov. 11) for the first round of the WIAC Tournament. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
