WINONA, Minn. – The No. 15 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (2-2-0) got a 4-1 win at Saint Mary's (2-1-1) on Saturday to close out a four-game road trip to start the season.
Owen Dean (Calgary, Alberta) put the Pointers ahead at 7:29 of the first period.
Gabe Randel (Hortonville, Wis.) and
Gino Colangelo (Newmarket, Ont.) had assists. It was Randel's first career point.
The Cardinals tied the game at the 13:44 mark of the first period.
Hunter O'Brien (Cambridge, Ont.) gave the Pointers a lead again at 14:59 of the first period. His eventual game winner was assisted on by
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) and
Alex Johnson (Calgary, Alberta).
Johnson scored his first career goal at 15:10 of the second period to give UWSP a 3-1 lead.
Adam Rajsigl (Windsor, Ont.) and Colangelo had assists.
In the third period,
Cody Pisarczyk (Airdria, Alberta) added an empty-net goal to complete the scoring. Bunting notched his second assist of the night on the play.
UWSP goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 20 saves, 12 in the third period, to earn the win. SMU goaltender Logan Abric made 29 saves.
The Pointers host St. Norbert in the home opener on Tuesday (Nov. 11). Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
