STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (8-4-8, 2-1-4) shut out UW-Stout (7-9-4, 1-4-2) by a 1-0 final in the regular season finale on Saturday.
Neither team could break the deadlock in the first half despite five shot attempts for each side.
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) broke the tie in the 48th minute. Her header at close range would prove to be the eventual match-winner.
Kayce Wadas (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) had assists on a nice play off the corner kick.
The goal was Klitzke's 10th of the season, the most since Kati Frierdich had 11 in 2021.
UWSP goalkeeper
Ainsley Katte (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) made two saves for the shutout win. She had help from her teammate in the 58th minute as the ball was cleared off the line.
The Pointers tied for second in the regular season standings and will be the four-seed in the WIAC Tournament. UWSP will host UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Nov. 5) at 7:30 p.m. at the UWSP Turf Facility.
