STEVENS POINT, Wis. – It took just 17 seconds for the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-2-0) to go in front and the Pointers won a 4-0 non-conference game against visiting Lawrence (0-8-0).
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) tipped in the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner just 17 seconds into the game.
Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) and
Amanda Pouchnik (Viola, Idaho/Moscow) had assists on the goal.
Late in the first period,
Abby Skelly (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) scored her first collegiate goal to push the lead to 2-0. Ahern got her second point of the night and
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) contributed her first assist of the game.
Riley Novak (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) pushed the lead to 3-0 at 15:25 of the second period. Yokom added her second helper of the night and
Skyler Arneson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) also had an assist.
In the third period,
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) skated from her own goal line through the Lawrence defense for an unassisted goal at 6:29. It was Andrle's third goal of the season, tying for the team lead.
UWSP goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) stopped all 22 shots she faced to earn the shutout win. LU goaltender Ella Sciborski had 24 saves.
The Pointers remain at home to take on UW-Superior on Saturday (Nov. 22) at 2:00 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
