Women’s Basketball Starts Fast in Big Win at Eureka

Eureka, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (3-0) started the game with a 31-7 first quarter and never looked back in an 88-50 win at Eureka (0-2).
 
Emma Kilpatrick (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) and Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) were in double figures with 11 and 10 points. A total of 15 Pointers scored in the game.
 
Kilpatrick nailed a pair of three-pointers and Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) had four points in a 10-2 run that gave UWSP a 12-4 lead. Loftus, Aubrey Smith (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and Maddie Murphy (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) each buried a three in the dominant 31-7 first quarter.
 
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) and Kilpatrick each drilled a three early in the second quarter. Lily Truchon (Herbster, Wis./South Shore) had four points in the stanza and the Pointers were up 52-26 at halftime.
 
Laney Panich (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) and Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) each had a three-point make to start the third. Loftus nailed a three midway through and the Pointers held a 67-37 advantage after three.
 
Brooke Bottcher (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) hit from beyond the arc and had five points in the fourth quarter as the Pointers rolled to the road win.
 
The Pointers will host Principia in the home opener on Nov. 23. Tip off in Berg gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
