STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens point women's hockey team (4-2-0, 0-1-0) opened conference play with a 5-0 loss to No. 1 UW-River Falls (4-0-0, 1-0-0) on Friday night at K.B. Willett Arena.
UWSP junior goaltender
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) was outstanding in net making a career-high 67 saves, three shy of tying the program record.
She made 22 saves in the opening period and gave up just one goal on a deflection as UWSP trailed 1-0 after one.
Again, Beck was the story in the second period. She made 19 saves in the second including an amazing post-to-post stop on the back door. The Falcons managed to get one by her in the period, a power-play tally.
In the third period, Beck was under siege, making 26 more saves. UWRF got another power-play goal early in the third and a pair of deflections late in the period put the game out of reach.
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) led the UWSP offense with five shots.
Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) and
Riley Novak (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) added three shots each.
UWRF goaltender Jordan O'Kane made 22 saves to earn the shutout win.
The Pointers are back home on Tuesday (Nov. 18) for a non-conference tilt against Lawrence. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
