MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (3-4, 0-4) fell at No. 24/RV UW-Stout (5-2, 3-1) in conference play on Saturday by a 42-22 final.
Brycen Cashin (Plover, Wis./Pacelli) led the Pointers' offense with 81 yards on 20 carries and he scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Chalie Smith completed 12 passes for 147 yards and connected with
Matt Getgen (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) on a touchdown.
Joe Berens (Wausau, Wis./West) led the defense with eight tackles.
Jack Luedtke (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) forced and recovered a fumble.
Brodie Overbeck (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) had the only sack for UWSP.
The Blue Devils took the lead on an interception return for a touchdown less than five minutes into the opening quarter.
UWSP followed up with a seven-play drive that stalled at the Stout 15 and
Tyler Sodemann (Waukesha, Wis./West) kicked a field goal to get the Pointers on the board.
The Blue Devils found the end zone on their next three offensive possessions to put UWSP in a 28-3 hole.
On the final UWSP drive of the half, Smith hit Cashin for 21 yards,
Austin Phillips (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) for 15 and Getgen for seven yards in a touchdown drive with 13 seconds left in the half.
Stout scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter for a 35-10 lead.
Luedtke forced a fumble and recovered it with 6:10 to go in the third quarter. Ten plays later, Cashin capped the drive with a two-yard touchdown run.
On UWSP's first drive of the fourth quarter, Cashin scored on the ground from seven yards out to complete a nine-play drive.
Stout tacked on a late touchdown to complete the scoring.
The Pointers are back home on Saturday (Nov. 1) for a conference matchup with UW-Eau Claire. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
