EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (14-12, 2-3) was swept by No. 4 UW-Eau Claire (24-2, 5-0) in league play on Wednesday.
Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led all players with 16 digs on the night.
Hannah Strege (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) had a team-high 20 assists.
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the Pointers with eight kills.
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) had a kill to spark a 5-0 run by the Pointers in the first.
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had a block and a kill as UWSP went up, 9-4. Nevins served an ace as the Pointers doubled up the Blugolds, 12-6.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) had a pair of kills, but the Blugolds stormed back with a 7-1 burst to take the opening set, 25-20.
Thomka had a pair of kills as UWSP trailed 12-6 in the second.
Samantha Kempinger (Oshkosh, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Bella Lucero (Antioch, Ill./Carmel Catholic) each served an ace as UWSP dropped the second set, 25-16.
Thomka and Shaw had two kills each as UWSP stayed close at 8-6 to start the third. Lucero's second ace of the night tied the set at 10-10. Thomka and Shaw had two kills each again late, but the Blugolds pulled away for a 25-19 win to finish the sweep.
The Pointers travel to Minnesota on Saturday (Oct. 25) to face St. Catherine and St. Olaf in Northfield at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
