OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday.
The Pointers swept doubles play to earn the team doubles point. No. 1 duo of
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Ellie Aitken (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) got a 7-6 win.
Chloe Regal (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) and
Annie Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) got a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) and
Allie Brosteau (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) completed the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Jantz, Wierzbicki and Brosteau all needed third sets or super-breakers to earn the win in singles play. Jantz split 6-3 sets before winning the third set, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Wierzbicki also played three sets winning the first, 6-0, and the decisive third, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Brosteau won at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (6).
Regal got the win at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-4, to move to 8-0 in dual action this season. Steier cruised toa 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
Aitken nearly helped UWSP to a shutout win. At No. 4 singles, she came up just short, 7-6, 7-5.
UWSP will close dual play in the fall with a home non-conference match against St. Norbert on Saturday (Oct. 18) at 11:00 a.m.
