Pointers Rally for Dramatic Reverse Sweep, Klapper’s 150th Win

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point head volleyball coach Lyndsay Klapper earned her 150th career win as the Pointers (9-7, 2-1) rallied to reverse sweep UW-Platteville (9-6, 2-1) on Tuesday night.

Logan Cregan (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville Area) posted a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) added a team-high 15 kills and a match-high five blocks. Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) and Delilah Hyland (Glen Ellyn, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) were both in double figures with 10 kills each.
 
Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led all players with 23 digs. Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) contributed 10 digs. Hannah Strege (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) and Maggie O'Brien (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) posted 26 and 20 assists, respectively.
 
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) had two kills early as UWSP stayed close at 9-8 in the first set. Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) had two kills and a block, but the Pioneers took the opening set, 25-18.
 
Thomka had a pair of kills and an ace as the Pointers took a 10-9 lead in the second. Thomka added two more kills as UWSP held a 17-16 edge. Shaw, Cregan and Thomka combined for four kills as the set was tied at 23-23. UWP scored the final two points to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Shaw and Nevins each served an ace as the Pointers used an 8-2 burst to take a 12-9 lead in the third. Hyland and Trieloff combined on a block in a 4-0 run as the lead grew to 21-15. Cregan powered down three kills late as UWSP took the third set, 25-17.
 
Thomka had a kill and block as UWSP opened the fourth set with a 5-0 advantage. Shaw served up an ace amid a 7-1 run as the Pointers went up, 13-5. Erlandson served an ace and Shaw had two kills late as UWSP forced a fifth set with a 25-22 win.
 
Hyland had three kills as UWSP moved in front, 7-5, in the fifth. Cregan and Thomka had two kills each as a 4-0 run put the Pointers back in front, 12-11. The teams alternated points and match-points until a 17-17 tie. Thomka had a kill and then closed the match combining on a block with Cregan for the 19-17 win.
 
The Pointers remain at home to host the Papa John's Invite beginning on Friday (Oct. 3). UWSP faces Carthage at 5:00 p.m. and Millikin at 7:00 p.m.
