STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 17 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (13-4. 3-3) had its lowest shooting percentage in seven seasons in a 60-43 loss to UW-Oshkosh (10-7, 1-5). The Pointers were just 16-for-54 from the floor (.296), the identical numbers from the 2017-18 opener against St. Olaf.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) led the Pointers in scoring with 12 points.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) was also in double figures with 11 points.
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) led the Pointers with five rebounds.
Miron and Abdul-Wahid combined for the first 11 UWSP points and an 11-9 lead seven minutes into the game. Bolden had five points, including a three-pointer with 3:20 left in the first half to keep UWSP close at 21-19. The Titans finished the half on a 6-0 run as UWSP went scoreless following Bolden's three.
Abdul-Wahid and Miron combined for seven of UWSP's first nine points of the second half while UWO built a double-digit lead.
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) ended an 8-0 UWO run with an and-one. By the time Abdul-Wahid made a layup with 4:14 remaining, the deficit had reached 20.
Tyshawn Teague-Johnson (Beloit, Wis./Turner) scored the Pointers' final six points of the game going 2for-3 from the field.
The Pointers will travel to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Jan. 25) to close out the first half of league play. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
