DE PERE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (1-1) picked up its first win of the season with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter for a 24-3 victory at St. Norbert (0-2).
 
Both teams' defenses held the other offenses in check most of the game. UWSP outgained the Green Knights in total offense 257 to 213 in the game.
 
Jake Leair completed 11 of 20 pass attempts for 140 yards. He threw one touchdown pass. 
Brycen Cashin (Plover, Wis./Pacelli) gained 43 of UWSP's 117 yards on the ground.
 
Miles Gallagher (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) hauled in five of Leair's completions for a game-high 107 yards and a touchdown.
 
Neither team scored in the first quarter as SNC had the most promising drive, but UWSP defense forced a turnover on downs.
 
Brock Chadwick (Poynette, Wis./Poynette) recovered a fumble on the second play of the second quarter. Late in the second quarter, the Pointers got their second takeaway as 
Zander Popp (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) made an interception.
 
On the ensuing drive, Gallagher rushed for 13 yards and caught a pass for 23 more yards to set up an 
Aleks Sauer-Milli (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) 40-yard field goal. The Pointers led at the half, 3-0.
 
The UWSP defense held SNC out of the end zone on six-straight plays from inside the five yard line. The Green Knights were forced to kick a field goal to tie the game at 3-3.
 
Late in the third quarter, the Pointers began a drive on their own 43. Seven rushes later, UWSP was at the SNC 23 as the quarter ended. Leair hit Gallagher on the first play of the fourth quarter to put UWSP inside the 10. Three plays later, Cashin found the end zone for a 10-3 lead.
 
Carson Van Ess (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) intercepted a pass on the next SNC drive. Later in the fourth quarter, 
Tyriq Sims (Chicago, Ill./Hubbard) pounced on a fumble near midfield. Five plays after the fumble recovery, Leair connected with Gallagher for a 39-yard touchdown to widen the lead to 17-3.
 
After another SNC turnover on downs, 
Reed Smith (Powell, Wyo./Powell) scampered to the end zone on a 23-yard rush to seal the 24-3 win.
The Pointers will face Gustavus Adolphus in the home opener next Saturday (Sept. 21) in the annual Pink Game for Cancer. Kickoff at Goerke Park is set for 1:00 p.m.
