Women’s Lacrosse Wraps up Inaugural Season Against Regionally Ranked Colorado

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (1-11, 1-5) faced off with conference foe Colorado College (12-5, 6-0) on Saturday, dropping the contest to the Tigers, 22-2.
 
The Tigers got off to a hot start in the first, shutting the Pointers out after tallying six goals in the opening quarter.
 
In the second, Colorado College continued the offensive onslaught by tacking on nine more goals to take a 15-0 lead heading into the half.
 
Coming out of the half, the Tigers continued their scoring streak until the Pointers registered their first goal of the bout. Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) shimmied her way to her 12th goal of the season to break up the shutout.
 
The Pointers tacked on their second and final goal off a dish from Stanius to Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), who ripped a backhanded goal. UWSP relinquished two goals to close the game as they fell to the Tigers, 22-2.
 
Stanius led the offense as she dished an assist and scored a goal while Leising tacked on her 25th goal of the season. Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) held down the backline, tying her career-high of four caused turnovers and three groundballs.
 
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made the start in goal with nine saves in one half of play. Ally Schmidli (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) played the second half and had four saves.
 
The Pointers close their inaugural season having scoring 92 goals as a team. UWSP held two teams to under double-digit goals while causing 127 turnovers in 12 games.
