MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (0-3) took a hard-fought 14-13 loss against Augsburg (2-6). The game-winning decision came after a back-and-forth bout through the final minutes of play.
After jumping out to a quick 2-0 Auggies lead, the Pointers broke the ice with the inverse, scoring two quick man-up goals by
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) and
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) to knot the score, 2-2. Augsburg regained the lead, making it 3-2 after scoring with the Pointers down two at the 0:54 second mark.
Van Dyke kicked off the scoring for UWSP in the second, scoring two goals early to give the Pointers their first lead of the game, 4-3. The Auggies responded quickly with two quick goals to regain the lead in the middle of the quarter, 5-4. Van Dyke managed another goal off a rebound to tie the score at 5-5 heading into the half.
The Pointers scored their first third-quarter points of the season as
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) scored an unassisted goal and Van Dyke tallied her fifth of the game on a free-position opportunity to earn a 7-5 lead. Leising earned her first career hat trick by scoring two goals to close out the third with a 10-8 lead.
Both teams traded goals in the early portion of the fourth with goals from Leising and Stanius, maintaining the two-goal Pointer lead, 12-10. The Auggies entered a 3-0 run to take the lead 13-12 with 6:56 remaining in regulation.
Allison Talir (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville Senior) added a goal on a free-position opportunity to knot the score 13-13. With 3:19 remaining in the game, the Auggies netted their game-winning goal to take a 14-13 victory.
Van Dyke finished with a team-high seven points, six goals and one assist while Leising cleaned up on the defensive side of the field with team-highs in caused turnovers and groundballs with seven in each.
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) had an impactful day on the backline with six groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made the start in goal with 10 saves in net.
The Pointers will host their first-ever home game in program history on Wednesday (Mar. 27) against Elmhurst. Opening draw is set for 6:00 p.m. at the UWSP Turf Facility.
